Well, I think it’s about time I get to Adam Sandler and Happy Madison Productions and I do find it amazed that he went from being funny in both stand-up and Saturday Night Live to being an egotistical, product placement hack. Honestly, I don’t have much hate on this guy since I watched and enjoyed his movies up to The Longest Yard and don’t mind his friends like Kevin James, David Spade and even Rob Schneider. Yeah, I ashamed to say that I don’t mind the guy who’s “da derp dee derping” himself for living.
Now I’m going to take on the most notorious movie he starred in – Jack And Jill. It holds that reputation since it has been said to be the worst movie of 2011 by Time Magazine, it won every, single category in this year’s Razzies and it caused infamous reviewer Armond White to be unlisted in Rotten Tomatoes for giving a positive review of this movie. Actually, he’s actually barred from the site because of New York Press ceased its publication since he used to work there but let’s move on.
The movie focuses on Jack Sadelstein (Adam Sandler) who’s living his life as a well-known advertising executive along with having a wife Erin (Katie Holmes), two kids and even a homeless person named Otto (Allen Covert and yes, that’s the same character he played on Happy Gilmore). However, He is about to face mirth and mayhem when his twin sister Jill (Adam Sandler) comes to visit him during the thanksgiving holidays and sticks around for more than one month.
With that, Jack is trying to get Al Pacino to star in a Dunkin Donuts commercial because his name sounds so much similar to Dunkaccino (and Cupaccino and other similar names). Although, Al Pacino became obsessed with his sister and does anything to get her including agreeing to Jack’s deal. To make a long story short, Jill finds the love with Felipe (Eugenio Derbez), Al Pacino still does the commercial only to be disgusted by it enough that he wants the commercial burned and David Spade plays a female who gets knocked out by Jill.
Okay so what do I say about Jack And Jill? I can take the fact that it’s one of the worst movies to hit last year but honestly, putting this movie on the top of that list is what made me mixed about this. With overused product placements, unnecessary celebrity cameos and immature jokes, I don’t know what else to say but it’s basically like any other Adam Sandler movie that used these schticks before. Even the part about Adam playing an female character has been done and if you don’t know what I’m talking, the picture below will sum up to something that makes him more unoriginal than before…
For the acting, Adam is just being Adam (even as a female), Katie Holmes is surprisingly wasted because she does nothing but play Jack’s wife who stands here and there and Al Pacino sends himself in a bad way if it’s a movie more about him than the twins, I hate to say it but I’ll watch it. Uh, what else to say about the movie? The story is totally bland and forgettable, I already mentioned the jokes being immature which it really is and whatever. To end this review, I could say Going Overboard is worse than this but there is a movie worse than both and I have to review that one.
